DC Debuts First Interior Art for Johns & Fabok’s Batman: Three Jokers

Yesterday, Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok shared new details about and art from their anticipate Batman: Three Jokers series with an enthusiastic New York Comic Con crowd. One of the biggest revelations was the character design sheets, which show off the three different Jokers’ looks and make perfectly clear which era each is from (Original Joker, Killing Joke and Classic ’60s Joker)), as well as Batman and Batgirl’s decidedly Silver Age costumes.

The creative team also shared a glimpse of what to expect when readers crack the covers open on the series, debuting a handful of panels from the story. And while they may not be full pages, the artwork released does paint a picture of a Bat-family story that will explore a number of eras from Batman, Batgirl and Red Hood’s long and involved history with the Clown Prince of Crime.

Among the images, which you can find in the gallery below, we see Barbara Gordon wearing her Silver Age Batgirl cowl, a recreation of Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo’s famous scene that saw Joker beat Jason Todd to death with a crow bar in “Death in the Family,” a shot of the original Red Hood being unmasked, and a meeting between Commissioner Gordon and a Batman still wearing his iconic yellow oval bat symbol on his chest.

“The coolest thing about this story is, no one knows anything about it,” Johns told a the NYCC fans. “It’s a pretty mature take. I’ve never gotten to write a Batman and Joker story, and Jay’s never gotten to draw one. We wanted to tell the best Batman story, the best Joker story possible.”

“This whole book is a lotta work,” Fabok added. “But I’m so excited to get up and work, and every time I hand in a page, I’m really proud of it. I feel there’s a magic to this story. I had chills, I really feel like Geoff has come up with the ultimate Batman/Joker story.”

Though Batman: Three Jokers doesn’t currently have a release date, Johns indicated at his Comic-Con International in San Diego panel last summer that he hopes the miniseries will debut sometime this winter.
