A Guardian of the Galaxy Is Joining Marvel’s Avengers

Rocket Raccoon will be joining the Avengers for the upcoming Avengers: No Road Home story, which is the sequel to last year’s “Avengers: No Surrender.”

“Quite a while ago, now, Mark and Jim and I were trapped in a room and beaten with a pole,” writer Al Ewing joked during the Marvel – True Believers panel at New York Comic Con, alluding to how “Avengers: No Road Home” came to be. He went on to mention that Rocket Raccoon would become an Avenger for the storyline, while Voyager would return.

It’s not entirely clear at this time why Rocket will choose to join the Avengers on their mission. However, he’ll likely be a great help to the team as it faces a new cosmic threat.

“Avengers: No Surrender” ran from Avengers #675-690 and combined the rosters of Avengers, U.S.Avengers and Uncanny Avengers. Waid, Ewing, Zub, Pepe Larraz, Kim Jacinto and Paco Medina were the creative team that saw the Earth stolen as a part of the Grandmaster and Challenger’s cosmic game to see who could outwit the other. The weekly event also saw the return of Bruce Banner/Hulk, the Black Order and a new Lethal Legion, along with the debut of the Grandmaster’s daughter, Voyager, who altered the Avengers’ memory to make herself a founding Avenger.
