Anime Series Like Meddlesome Kitsune Senko-San

Nakano is a salaryman that works for a company that greatly exploits him. He returns to home each day exhausted, and one day, returns home to find an 800-year-old fox girl has invaded his home. She cooks, she cleans, and she states that she will heal his exhaustion with her occasionally questionable care.

As the wholesome shows for the Spring 2019 anime season, you know what to expect. Except with an extra does of questioning whether it is okay to love an 800-year-old that looks like a child. Anyway, you want some anime recommendations like it? Let us take care of that.

For Fans of Domestic Caretakers

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Miss Kobayashi is a programmer that lives alone in her apartment. However, one day a giant green dragons ends up on her doorstep and transforms into a women in a maid outfit. Apparently Kobayashi had gotten drunk one night and ended up saving this dragon. Now, dragon Tooru intends to repay her debt through housework.

Obviously, these two are the most similar. In Kobayashi, she is cared for by a dragon that invades her home and becomes her maid. Nakano is taken care of by a kitsune that invades his home and acts wifely. Both series feature overworked protagonists that both badly need someone in their lives as well.

My Roommate is a Cat

Subaru is a novelist, and not very good with people. He’s been alone since his parent’s death, but one day while praying at their grave, a cat comes and eats his offering. Deciding to take it home, he now is shouldered with a cat, and this stray is shouldered with caring for a human who can barely care for himself.

Unlike Senko, My Roommate is a Cat is in no way supernatural. It is literally about a guy and his cat. However, you will notice a lot of the same feelings. The cat takes care of its owner as much as her owner takes care of her. It’s cute, wholesome, but not about cat girls.

Engaged to the Unidentified

On Kobeni Yonomori’s 16th birthday, it is discovered that her grandfather arranged for her to marry the mysterious Hakuya Mitsumine. Shocked, she now finds herself living with her future husband, his deceptive little sister, and her own perverted older sister. However, Kobeni takes it in stride, adjusting to her new life and trying to learn more about the new additions.

Think of Engaged to the Unidentified as a reversal of roles that happen in Senko. Both involve supernatural beings invading their home, but in Engaged to the Unidentified, Kobeni takes care of her supernatural fiance and in-law. Like Senko, Kobeni is quite the natural at it as well.

For Fans of Supernatural Creatures in Homes

Hinamatsuri

One night, an object falls through space and time into the living room of dignified yakuza member Nitta. It turns out, this strange girl has psychic powers, but Nitta is reluctant to both take her in and make use of those powers. Respecting his decision to not use her as a tool, this girl, Hina, decides to help him as they begin their life together.

Both series feature supernatural house guests that look like children but don’t always act like them. This is more true in Senko’s case, as Hina can be quite childish sometimes. Regardless, both are pretty wholesome and hilarious.

Monster Musume

With his parents abroad, Kimihito Kurusu is living the quiet alone life. Or rather, he was until an incompetent inter-species exchange coordinator made him the caretakers of a Lamia named Miia. With a supernatural creature now living in his house, it serves to not only break up his peace, but attract other supernatural beings as well.

Infinitely more ecchi than Senko, Monster Musume features a similar plot situation. Normal average everyman is forced to live with various sorts of supernatural beings. They take care of him, but in Monster Musume, often he takes care of them too.

Squid Girl

Terror of the seas Ika Musume has come out of the ocean to punish humanity for polluting her waters. With her ink-spitting skills and tentacles for hair, she is all set for invading Earth, but she didn’t count on two sisters bullying her into working at their seafood restaurant.

While fox girls and squid girls couldn’t be more different, both series have these creatures in the human world doing surprisingly cute things. However, mostly in Squid Girl she gets tricked into doing things.

For Fans of Kitsune

Our Home’s Fox Deity

The Mizuchi bloodline has been the constant target for yokai. The current generation of this bloodline, Toru and Noboru Takagami, were left a secret weapon to protect them by their grandmother. The weapon is Tenko Kugen, a fox deity that comes to live in their house with a shrine maiden name Ko.

Of all the kitsune series, this is the most similar to Senko. However, Tenko isn’t as good of a caretaker as Senko is, but they both excel in comic relief.

Inari Kon Kon

Below average high school girl Inari Fushimi has one positive perk, she can’t overlook a person in need. One day, she ends up rescuing a fox cub, only for the god of the Inari Shrine, Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami, to thank her. As thanks he grants her a small drop of his power that allows her to transform into anyone at will. The problem is, a human possessing even this small amount of a god’s power draws a lot of attention from the supernatural world.

Inari Kon Kon is about a girl dealing with the supernatural with her fox companion. Senko touches on this at times, but mostly it is more of a comfy anime series where as Inari Kon Kon is distinctly supernatural.

Kamisama Kiss

Homeless and in debt, high schooler Nanami Momozono thinks things are looking up when she rescues a man and he offers to let her stay at his home. She soon discovers that his home is a rundown shrine. Trying to leave, she is mistaken for the man she saved – the man that is also the land god of the shrine, Mikage. Finding out she was tricked into being a god and not wanting to be homeless, Nanami tries to embrace her new divine duties, but has to deal with a hot-headed fox familiar to keep things running smoothly.

While this series seems very different, it has its similarities. Aside from the kitsune in Kamisama Kiss being kind of an asshole for most of the series, he is also quite the skilled domestic caretaker. He cooks, he cleans, he manages the shrine, and he takes care of his Land God. However, Kamisama Kiss goes into more detail with the plot other than just kitsune doing housework things.
