Anime Series Like O Maidens in Your Savage Season

The girls of the literature club have recently been reading sexually charged pieces of literature. This combined with a newfound interest in adult relationships sends each member spiraling off into the world of sex and intimate relations.

An anime about girls and sex without being lewd? Scandalous! The very idea! Well, it was a great idea. Not only does is have some great comedy amidst the furious drama, but it also ends up telling some pretty poignant tales. If you are looking for anime series like O Maidens in Your Savage Season, then head on down below.

For Fans of Learning About Love

Love Lab

Student Council President Natsuo Maki is considered the epitome of perfection. However, when Riko enters the student council room on an errand, she discovers Natsuo practicing her kissing and not very gracefully. Riko discovers that the student council president desires more romance in her life and gets roped into helping her practice her romantic technique.

O Maidens is definitely more about sex rather than love, but both series present a wholesome love-focused anime series about people that want to learn more about it and understand it. Of course, Love Lab is more comedy whereas O Maidens is drama.

B Gata H Kei

Yamada is beautiful and just entering high school, but she has one strange goal – to have casual sex with 100 men. The problem is that she is afraid of being teased for being a virgin. Upon happenstance, she stumbles upon a solution to her problem, the soft-spoken (also virgin) Kosuda. The problem is, he knows nothing about sex and is a shy gentleman about it.

B Gata H Kei is definitely more of a comedy to O Maidens slice of life drama. However, it has some poignant messages in there too. Despite her slutty motivations, Yamada is a pure maiden too and that creates some great laughs.

Scum’s Wish

To the outside world, Mugi and Hanabi look like the perfect couple, but the truth is that they are only dating each other because they can’t be with the people they actually want to be with. For Hanabi, it is her childhood friend-turned-homeroom-teacher and for Mugi it is his older tutor that has been teaching him since middle school. In order to stave off the loneliness, the pair find solace in each other’s arms.

While both series focus heavily on sex, the mood of each series is distinctly different. While O Maidens is a rather wholesome series, there is very little positivity in Scum’s Wish. Still, both are an exploration of sex and what it really means to people.

For Fans of Female Friendships

A Place Further Than The Universe

Upon discovering an old list she made in the last year of middle school, Mari Tamaki, who is now in her second year of high school realizes she is not making the most of her youth. Whenever she tries to do something new, she is paralyzed with inaction. Then one day she meets Shirase, a girl who’s mother went missing when she was in middle school on an expedition to Antarctica. Knowing full well it is close to impossible, she works hard in order to go to search for her mother and invites Mari along for the ride.

Both of these series excel in creating realistic relationships between young girls. However, really the most amazing thing is how they create grounded series using the subject matter. You don’t expect school girls to make it to Antarctica and you really probably wasn’t expecting an non-lewd anime series about young girls on a quest for sexual discovery. Yet, here we are and it is amazing.

Carole & Tuesday

This is the story about two very different girls with the same goal. Tuesday, a girl raised in wealth, and Carole, a girl just scraping by, both want to make music. A chance meeting brings them together, and together they may just make their dream come true.

While Carole & Tuesday differs with its whole music plot, if you like watching girls interacting in a realistic way, then this series is pretty great. Both shows feature grounded relationships where the characters help each other get through life.

K-On

Upon entering high school, Yui is immediately entranced by the Light Music Club. The problem is, she can’t play an instrument. Deciding to join the club anyway, the other club members, despite disappointment in her lack of musical knowledge, allow her to join to prevent the club’s disbandment. Today begins Yui’s musical education!

While O Maidens is definitely more dramatic at times, both series focus on the strong bond of friendship that is built between a group of girls in a club. O Maiden really isn’t a friendship sort of anime, but these girls do have a pretty realistic relationship between them.

For Fans of Individual Character Stories

Honey and Clover

Honey and Clover follows a group of college students who meet Hagumi, an artist with a tremendous amount of talent that transfers to their school. From there on, Honey and Clover tells stories about the joys of falling in love, the pain of letting go, and the journey to discovering who you really are.

Both series focus on a handful of characters. There really isn’t any strong main character in the series, but rather, you watch as the shows explore each character and their story arcs. While Honey and Clover has a big love aspect like O Maidens, you will also note that it is also about life in general as well.

Kimi ni Todoke

Quiet and relatively timid, Sawako Kuronuma is misunderstood by her classmates. Due to her long black hair and shyness, they have taken to calling her Sadako, the ghost girl from The Ring. Longing to make friends, she is drawn to Kazehaya Shouta, the most popular boy in school and his refreshing personality. However, when Kazehaya starts talking to her, Sawako’s lonely world begins to open up.

While both series are great little tales of young love, in each you will find that every one has a story. Even characters that really seem like quite side line characters get a little bit of focus when it comes to what is going on in their life.

Hatsukoi Limited

This is a tale of middle school and high school girls and their first loves. Each episode is its own love story, but those same couples may play other roles in the next love story.

Both anime series are very much tales of first love and a sort of awakening to love. While Hatsukoi focuses on the purely emotional aspects, O Maiden is brave enough to bring at least the potential for sex into the equation. In both shows you watch as each character goes through their arc.
